Accepted: PDF files (.pdf) · Max 50 MB per file · Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Settings

No settings. This tool re-saves the document in a more compact form. It works best on PDFs with uncompressed objects or heavy metadata. PDFs that are already optimised, or that are mostly scanned images, often shrink little or not at all — the result summary will tell you the truth either way.

How Compress PDF works

  1. 1.Upload one PDF (up to 50 MB).
  2. 2.Process — the file is re-saved with object streams and metadata stripped.
  3. 3.Compare the before/after sizes in the result, then download.

Privacy

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server, never stored by PDFNova, and never shared with anyone. Closing the tab discards them. The only exception is if a future tool is explicitly labelled as server-processed — this tool is not one of those.

Frequently asked questions

Will compression reduce image quality?

No. This tool does not downsample images or change page content, so quality is unchanged. That is also why some files barely shrink.

Why didn't my file shrink?

Scanned-image PDFs and already-optimised PDFs have little redundant structure to remove. Real image downsampling is a server-side optimisation planned as the separate Optimize PDF tool.

Is metadata really removed?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer fields are cleared in the re-saved file.
