Extract selectable text from a PDF into a .txt file, free in your browser.

Accepted: PDF files (.pdf) · Max 50 MB per file · Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Settings

No settings. Text is extracted page by page in reading order. Scanned PDFs have no text layer, so they produce little or no text — that is a property of the file, not an error in this tool, and the result will say so if it is empty.

How PDF to Text works

  1. 1.Upload one PDF (up to 50 MB).
  2. 2.Process — text is extracted from each page in order.
  3. 3.Download the .txt file.

Privacy

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server, never stored by PDFNova, and never shared with anyone. Closing the tab discards them. The only exception is if a future tool is explicitly labelled as server-processed — this tool is not one of those.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my scanned PDF's text file empty?

Scanned pages are images, not text. Extracting text from them needs OCR, which this browser-only build does not include. The tool reports this honestly instead of inventing text.

Is layout preserved?

No. The output is plain text in reading order; columns, tables and formatting are not reconstructed.
